Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
There’s a video doing the rounds on social media at the moment.

A male parking warden is issuing a ticket to an ambulance that has parked on a double yellow line outside a Tesco’s. He is getting abuse from various onlookers and being told by everyone that he can’t possibly ticket an ambulance

The female paramedic comes out of Tesco and explains she’s been on shift since 6:30am and wanted to stop and get some water

The ticket enforcer tells her that because she isn’t on a call this isn’t acceptable and issues her a ticket

What’s the morally right thing to do? Does the paramedic have the right to park on a double yellow during her break to get a drink? Or does the same rule apply to her as it does to any other council employee? Would it be acceptable if it was a doctor between home visits in his own car?

I’m actually not sure what the answer is

The fine will be addressed to the registered owner so not her problem.

jobsworth cunt, not sure why you have to ask the question. the thick bastard was told numerous times that they're (the ambulance teams) are constantly 'on call' and ready to respond. the fella filming and the lady may as well have been speaking to a lump of wood, as that would have had more fucking sense

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
Even if it was 'morallly right" wouldn't it be pointless anyway? Wouldn't it just result in the council paying another department?

Anyway, the warden clearly is an idiot

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
The Warden is not the the idiot rather it's the ambulance crew. What I've seen them do is one of the crew stands by the open back door [ with the blue light flashing ] whilst the other one does does the "shopping".

Vehicles on emergency calls have an automatic exemption and the crew should have been savvy enough to take advantage of this.

I'd rather the ambulance was closer to the front door of Tesco than further away if it was a matter of life and death.

The traffic warden is going to get cunted off no matter the moral issues here, so why bother with a ticket?

comma, because fabricating an emergency is a serious matter, getting a parking ticket, not so much

She’s out of order and taking the piss, but fuck it, she picks up bits of people for a living and tries to patch them together so should have licence to stretch parking regulations a bit. You’ve got to have something about you to give a parking ticket to an ambulance.

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
I think it is right the ambulance was given a ticket because this was not attending an emergency. It was someone doing some shopping. There are thousands of people working for the emergency services or medics in hospital wards who will have worked long shifts and need supplies. Would it be OK if they just parked where they liked?

Yes.
Parking attendant has enforced the law and the ambulance driver is attempting to abuse their position.
Doesn’t seem the right sort of character and should be sacked FORTHWITH

Onlookers should all be fined for obstructing a public official. £1,000 each is about right.

Paramedic here
We have certain dispensations to parts of the Road Traffic Act when acting in the course of our duty.
The key phrase that is drummed into us.....could you justify your actions in a court of law if necessary.
Could the paramedic in this case justify it in court?
Probably not. I suspect the Ambulance Trust in this case will determine who the driver is and get them to pay the ticket.
Have I done something similar? Of course!
But you just have to be a bit careful.
If we completely take the piss we will lose the general goodwill that we do get from the public.....making a difficult job even harder.

I don't see that it not attending an emergency at that exact moment has anything to do with it.

The crew clearly felt that this was the best way in which they could respond to a potential emergency (that's the whole point of emergency services, isn't it? Quick response) in the shortest possible time.

An ambulance could park on my foot if it meant the difference between them attending an emergency and saving someone's life and being two minutes too late to do so.

No.

When you employ thick cunts who don't understand the term "on call" just so you can't become a company where it's said your not employing ethnics, they deserve the bad publicity.

How anyone can think they deserved a ticket is laughable. Put in the same basket as Dianne Abbott.

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
There is quite a simple rule for me. If an emergency service vehicle is on a job, including a doctor on a home visit, then they can be forgiven for ignoring parking restrictions.

If not, then they must follow the same rules as the rest of us.

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
Personally I wouldn’t have ticketed the ambulance I would have used some discretion but saying that the ambulance could have parked in the car park and walked a few yards to the door to get a drink

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
There were no bays big enough, that's why they parked there.

Re: Should the ambulance have got a parking ticket
Was this a small Tesco branch or their generic superstore that has lots of parking bays?
